Ceveral bowls of metal an glass; from lower to higher tones, each one 'played' with one hard and and one soft hit. Recorded with a matched pair of rode nt 5 microphones.

Noise left after dithering and phase canceling a tone. A tone was created with audacity's tone generator. Another version of the tone was made by downsampling and dithering the original tone in ableton live. I then phase cancelled the two sounds by switching the polarity of one of the tones and blending them back together in audacity. Because of the phase canceling, none of the original tone can be heard. Only the noise added during dithering remains.

This is a tone that i generated using my electric fender strat through one of my vintage amplifiers in my studio. Works well as a sample for composing soundscapes with it - i've used these tones in maschine and other sequencing/midi based instruments to create some interesting orchestral arrangements with the tones.

Originally contributed by freesound user juskiddink, this series of two blasts on a finnish birch bark horn has been shortened and tightened for use as a ring tone. It's a long, organic and haunting two-tone call echoing in the forest night; a clear alternative to the mechanical and tightly musical ringtones out there, and one i like a lot. Edited to wrap nicely for a continuing repeat.

This one i made myself with some visual basic programming. I used it as an alarm and ringtone on my smart phone. You may want to trim the silent tail.

Bassdrum hit with mallet, recorded 24bit stereo on a sony-pcmd50. One mic was on-axis and the other was off. The samples are in stereo only as to allow for more control in tone and editing.

Tuning fork 440 hz recorder using hp omen laptop's native microphone - stereo recording with one of the channels having bigger magnitude, was put to mono using audacity.

I generated a "chirp" with audacity going from something like 400 to 0, logarithmically. Then i faded it in and out. Useful for video games, especially old ones, for running into a wall or something like that.

Hi. This is a loop of aurora colorado'sold whelen wps-3016 system test. The city had 3016's, and wps-2810's. They did the wail tone for 3 minutes, and the whoop tone for 30 seconds. This is a one sycle loop of the wail tone. You can hear the other sirens in the system in the background, as well as some very excited dogs that where barking during the whole test. I don't know the exact location of this siren. Also, the system has been removed and replaced with new whelens a couple of years ago. They had a yellow wps-3016 in the sistem hope you like it. A parisian fire truck passes about 150 feet away and briefly turns on its siren to make sure nobody overlooks it. Emergency vehicles in france have either two-tone or three-tone sirens. Vehicles to which one must yield the right of way, such as fire trucks, use the two-tone siren. The three-tone siren (not on this recording) is used for vehicles that do not require drivers to yield but should still be given some priority. Recorded with a zoom h4n hand-held, stereo 96 khz / 24 bits, built-in mics, about 150 feet away from the passing truck.

A 1khz wave, often used as an effect for a flatline, test pattern, censorship, etc. This one more for effect (such as a movie) than a test tone. This was built with a square waveform for maximum loudness.

A small bass drum sound i whipped up in about ten or fifteen minutes; this one with a techno/hardcore vibe. Made in audacity using tone generators and various effects.

One sample run through lots of effects, but a large part of the sound is made by running the sample at really fast repetitions, so fast it just becomes a tone. That and making the sound repeat in fractions (?) or something like that. Like one trigger is 5 times and then the next is 3 times in the same space of time. Etc. Created by mangling a sample in reaper's js scripting language.

A series of three octave tones dropping in pitch, with the highest one fading in to create a dropping effect ending at a higher frequency. Just my attempt to recreate the dropping bells effect. Start the sound over from the beginning after finishing.
